Burnaby, BC -- December 3, 2007 - Reeling from the impact of a Canadian one-two blow in professional cycling this summer, American cyclists will pull out all the stops to defeat the Canadians at the Burnaby Six Day professional track race, taking place December 31st through January 5th at the Burnaby Velodrome.
Demonstrating the increasing strength and depth of Canada's athletes, Canadian cyclists took top honors at two important Pro races this summer: the US Open Road Championships and the US Pro Criterium Championships. Looking for a chance at redemption and revenge, the Americans will now battle the Canadians on home turf and settle for nothing less than victory!
Taking to the track is a World Class field of riders rarely seen together and in such close quarters,
including:
· Svein Tuft (#1 ranked road cyclist in western hemisphere and winner of the US Open
Road Championship)
· Zach Bell (#2 ranked World Cup track racer).
· David McCook (US national scratch race champion)
· Kirk O'Bee (winner 2007 Giro di Burnaby and Tour de Gastown)
Racing starts at 7pm each night and the Pros will compete in 3 to 5 races every night.
Also featured during the week will be a series of sprint events showcasing some of Canada's best young sprint talent such as Cam MacKinnon and "Supersonic" Monique Sullivan. Sprinters will tackle events such as the keirin where riders battle by any means for the best position behind the electric pace bike as speeds increase to 50 kph and riders are left to sprint the remaining 500m at top speed!
The stage is set for an intense and competitive Canadian - American duel at the Burnaby Six Day track race. Come cheer on our Canadian talent and see racing action like you've never seen before.
